Chery has quickly introduced its premium brand, Omoda C5 SUV, to the local market following the Tiggo trio's acceptance. The vehicle's name, C5, comes from a global naming competition, with the 'O' representing oxygen - indicating new life and vitality, while 'Moda' is derived from 'modern,' representing the fresh thinking that went into the vehicle's design.

The Omoda has a futuristic look, standing on large wheels (up to 18-inch alloys), with a sloping roof resting on darkened roof pillars and the multi-dimensional grille forming the centrepiece of its appearance. At the rear, there is a dual-stacked roof spoiler and multi-dimensional rear lights with contrasting red highlights on the Elegance S-model.

According to Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa, "The Omoda C5 is one of the most futuristic models that has ever come out of the Chery Group." He added that their engineers experimented with a unique man-machine interface, voice commands, and a seamless digital interface while keeping many of the innovations that Chery Group clients love.

The interior features dual, high-resolution 10.25-inch digital screens that showcase vehicle safety and entertainment information. The ambient lighting system has 64 customisable colours to suit a mood or driving style. The system can even link to the three-dimensional Sony sound system to create appropriate lighting for different music moods.

Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) include automatic high-beam/low-beam switching, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alerts, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assistance, lane-departure warning and forward-collision warning.

The vehicle has a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that generates 115 kW and 230 Nm of torque through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with nine in-built steps and a fuel consumption of only 6,9 l/100 km.
