The Opel Corsa is now in its sixth generation. The Lite arrived in November 1996 as a South African-specific model, the second-generation Corsa produced locally in a three-door guise.

The Lite name has been revived as part of the updates to the Opel Corsa range for 2023, bowing in at R349 900 for the turbo-charged 1,2-litre.

Initially powered by Opel’s 1,3-litre eight-valve engine, the hatchback was popular enough to warrant an extended production run alongside the third-generation Corsa hatch.

The new entry-level model gets the same turbo-charged 1,2-litre engine fitted to the other models in the range – this engine offers 74 kW and drives through a 6-speed manual transmission. The top variant, the Elegance, is slightly tweaked and generates 96 kW with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Corsa Lite has a drag coefficient of 0,29 for better performance and fuel economy.

The Lite is equipped with front power windows, air-conditioning, Eco LED headlamps and safety features such as tyre pressure monitoring and Active Lane Keep Assist. Inside is a 7-inch touchscreen radio and the latest connectivity technology from the IntelliLink Infotainment system.

Edition models gain LED front fog lamps and front and rear parking sensors, while Elegance models boast even more tech features.
