Aimed squarely at fleet and small business users, the revised range will consist of the ‘S’ grade. which is a workhorse level specification and the ‘SX’ that is a mid-grade specification level.
Both the Single and Double Cab facelifted Steed share the same diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission – the petrol Steed powerplant now discontinued.
In December last year, the AA released NCAP results that did not bode well for the Steed even though the very base model was tested. The vehicle in question was the entry level without airbags or anti-lock brakes.
Taking this extremely seriously, the R&D and product planning teams both domestically and in China, jumped to action and the new vehicle is not only updated, but safer than ever before. With the launch of this new generation Steed, all models now come with dual front airbags and anti-lock braking as standard equipment across the range.
The model line-up for the 2022 Steed is split into Single Cab that will be available in 2.0 S 4x2; 2.0 S 4x4; 2.0 SX 4x4, again only in diesel derivatives. The Double Cab offering is 2.0 SX 4x2 and 2.0 SX 4x4. All models are mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The new Steed offers a new front grille and bumper. The bumper is also colour coded and there is an addition of an outer tie down. The interior features a black luxury trim change with the overall look and feel of the outgoing Steed 6 interior. The S & SX grade will feature the same single din AM/FM radio with USB port is available on the radio deck itself.

In terms of engine performance, output is increased by 5 kW and 15 Nm on the new range in comparison with the outgoing model, with the torque being delivered earlier in rev range at 1 400 r/min.
A service plan is available as standard only on the Double Cab version being 3-years/40 000 km, however an optional purchase service plan is available for Single Cab models. The new Steed will continue to be offered with a warranty of 5 years or 100 000 km.
