The original Nissan Navara has always been the lifestyle biased double cab in South Africa for at least two reasons – the presence of a smaller Hardbody in the range perceivably for our working force and secondly the Navara’s size in relation to it, ditto to the Hilux and Ranger of its time. But those bakkies have all grown in stature and so too must the Navara grow in range now offering four two-wheel drive variants. That’s an entry level SE model in 6-speed manual at just R457 900 which can be had with a 7-speed automatic transmission at R471 900 plus in LE luxury trim at R519 900 and R538 900 respectively.
Whichever Navara you opt for, it represents a lot of vehicle for your
money and hopefully the buying public will respond accordingly to boost
sales of what is a very capable and luxurious double-cab. Performance
across the entire range is derived from the same 2.3 litre turbodiesel
engine with 140kW and 450Nm while onboard perks include a wealth of
connectivity and multimedia options, satellite navigation, 310 degree
camera, dual zone climate control and safety gear inclusive of seven
airbags. The 4×2 is even meant to be a bit quieter thanks to reduced
engine noise, vibration and harshness but ultimately this is a bakkie,
right? And you can add to this Nissan’s 6 year / 150 000km warranty and a
3 year / 90 000km service plan.
Which one to get? We’d be perfectly happy to opt for the standard spec with an auto ‘box at R471 900.
