The Proton name will return to local roads from September when the first examples of the X50 and X70 go on sale through a network of 25 dedicated dealers.
The first batch of cars has already arrived in Durban for processing.
Combined Motor Holdings (CMH), a JSE-listed specialist motor retailer, will distribute Proton locally.
Geely, which owns Volvo and Lotus, and is a significant shareholder in Mercedes Benz, purchased Proton in 2017 and commenced with an aggressive upgrade to the product offering.
Its multi-faceted automotive business model allows it to incorporate the latest European technologies and designs into the Proton X50 and X70 which, in left-hand drive versions have sold more than 2,8 million cars globally, contributing to Geely’s status as the world’s eighth biggest car manufacturer.
Starting from R450 000, the Proton X50 and X70 have modern engines, technologies, designs, safety features and warranties that allow them to compete with European luxury brands at competitive prices.
