Letter From The Editor: Get The Balance Right

While the motoring industry must balance EVs and hybrids, body shells of every shape and size to cater to you, the customer, having ever evolving needs from your car, we at Carshop are also always working hard on getting the balance of content right. From exotic first drives to mundane sedan reviews, that is our duty to you, the reader.

That was the name of Depeche Mode’s 1983 hit track and it opened with the line “there’s more besides joyrides.”

Obviously, that’s debatable, my entire life being a case in point. But it’s not even my favourite thing to have come out of 1983, for example I much prefer my own joyride device, my Toyota Celica Supra.

The message however remains incredibly relevant in the motoring industry and indeed, right here on Cashop. We’d love to fill each web page with exotic stints in provocative metal such as this Mercedes-AMG C43 or that Porsche 911 GT3 RS drive from a few months ago.

Sure, we could glance over the arguably more relevant consumer-oriented piece on cars people actually buy such as the Suzuki Ertiga and the new Toyota Corolla, but then we’d be doing you a disservice by robbing you of insight and advice only the Carshop team can offer such as James’ very relatable column on old Mercedes-Benz saloons.

And while we’ve dipped into the lowlier (more affordable Pacific Rimmers) spectrum more and more – for example the Haval H9 and Mahindra XUV500 – we’ve also catered for the upper-echelon enthusiast and the sort that enjoys cutting edge technology - such as last week’s drive in the new BMW 330i and the upcoming 850i and Z4.

So while we’re always working on getting the balance right here on Carshop – it’s the same for the motoring industry which must now balance EVs and hybrids, body shells of every shape and size and often jacked up on loftier suspensions to cater to you, the customer, having ever evolving needs from your car. And ditto – the needs of our reader, you. We hope you continue to enjoy the news, reviews, first drives and more here at Carshop.co.za.
