Suzuki has just launched the S-Presso compact SUV-type hatchback in South Africa and without even getting behind the wheel, I am suitably impressed. A launch report by Calvin Fisher will come later, but I quickly wanted to point out three reasons why this is an important car on the local market.
It’s price
With a starting price of R134 900 for the entry-level version, it really sets the cat among the pigeons. This starting price is for the GL manual version, while the rest of the range are priced at R139 900 for the GL+, R152 900 for the GL+ AMT, R147 900 for the S Edition and R160 900 for the S Edition AMT.
That is great value for a car from a well-liked and trusted brand.
The standard specification is vast
All models in the new S-Presso range feature two airbags as standard and come fitted with anti-lock braking system (ABS) with emergency brake-force distribution (EBD).
Nice-to-have features include electric windows for the front occupants, rear parking sensors, air conditioning, power steering and a multi-information display, which includes information such as distance to empty, trip duration and distance traveled.
Moving up to GL+ adds a full-colour infotainment system that is touch sensitive, comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB and auxiliary-in ports and Bluetooth connectivity. If you’re wondering what sets the S Editions apart from the GL and GL+, it’s the styling, but more on that in the first drive coming later.
There’s a lot of peace of mind that comes with this vehicle
I love it when manufacturers include insurance in the cost of a vehicle. It’s one of those surprise costs that you could forget to factor into the monthly costs of car ownership.
In this instance, S-Presso owners get a year’s worth of insurance, complementary. For added peace of mind, there is also a 2-year/30 000km service plan and 5-year/200 000km mechanical warranty
