Of the big three American manufacturers (Chrysler, Ford and General Motors) Ford has easily been the most successful, especially here in South Africa where the used Ford Fiesta continues to convincingly duel the likes of the Toytoa Yaris and VW Polo. Likewise, the Ford Focus does an excellent job of keeping the VW Golf honest whereas several segments below the Figo pulls no punches whilst at it with the Vivo.

Back home in the United States however, it is suffering (they all are) – in fact Ford USA are dramatically cutting back on their passenger car offerings, limiting it almost exclusively to the Mustang and some of their leisure trucks aka bakkies. In South Africa for the first time, we finally now get to enjoy right-hand-drive Ford Mustangs for sale and as for bakkies, we’ve enjoyed over a decade of the Ford Ranger. While we shall see whether or not hot ST (and RS) derivatives of our favourite (fast) Ford hatch backs will materialise here in South Africa (it’s not looking good fellas), we will get the locally produced Ranger Raptor. Much to the joy of South African Ford Ranger enthusiasts of which there is plenty.

Likes: Great honest cars that consistently punch above their weight

Dislikes: We don’t want to to live in a world without the Focus RS and Fiesta ST. We don’t.
