We’ve recently spent quite a bit of time with the H9 and H6 C Haval SUVs and can confirm that the Chinese have officially ‘arrived’. These are fairly luxurious cars now, never once giving you reason to doubt their ability or integrity – especially from the driver’s seat. Styling both inside and out is perfectly European, almost to a fault as you’ll find several design cues from other manufacturers echoed here. The cabins in particular are severely deja vu inducing – and feature laden. The engines are the weakest link in their formula at the moment, they’re not bad mind you, just sort of ‘performance oriented’ – the sort of mill you’d find in a hot hatchback ten years ago, you get the idea.

The rest of the range includes the H1 (previously the GWM M2), H2 compact cross over and a (non C) H6 SUV. Much like its GWM parent, the Haval brand deserves to be taken seriously – they represent great value, officially build good cars now and are just a few challenges short of being great. Watch this space.

Likes: Styling, if somewhat reminiscent of European cars.

Dislikes: Performance comes at a cost – fuel efficiency not quite up to the levels they need to be in order to be taken seriously in 2019.
